Veev

Veev is an innovative full-stack real estate company trying to own all parts of the real estate ecosystem with a focus in building smart, sustainable homes on a range of scales.

In 2019 we partnered with them to reinvent the way we build and experience living spaces. We generated a library of speculative prototypes imagining a new way to interact with our living spaces. This set the groundwork for a long term roadmap for reaching this vision.

Brief

The next step was to start building out the pieces of this larger vision with an iterative approach. We needed to build out the foundational smart home ecosystem for their upcoming developments. Identifying the essential points of interaction to create the foundational Home Operating System, we started with an app including all things related to your home and the Veev service, integrated with smart wall panels to control your system in-home.

Challenges

Ensure Scalability

Design both app and internal control system easily scalable to different types of properties.

Maintain Values

Incorporate and honor the core values from the vision work and Veev philosophy.

Unique & Human Feel

Designing a smart home app and digital system that feels uniquely human and stands out.

Features

For the initial round of properties we distilled our values and main features down to a core set, balancing unique opportunities and necessary utility for the user. Ultimately, the app reflects the health of your home as well as your life, so it was imperative to include features that represented these values qualitatively.

The App

After a few iterations of navigation models, we came up with Quick Cards. Swiping between the content cards allows the user to swiftly navigate between the main sections of the app, while getting a glimpse of the most relevant information from that section. It also offers a unique navigation model ownable by Veev.

Life List

The Life List is essentially your notification hub. It compiles all things related to your home, like whether a package has arrived or if you’ve saved money on your last bill. The List can offer smart suggestions for home controls based on your patterns and behavior for seamless use. Using a more conversational voice, the smart home experience feels a bit more human. Supported by the Quick Cards, the navigation model allows the Life List to always be accessible and visible from the home screen.

The Panel

The wall panel is found throughout the home, integrated into its surroundings. The control interactions are a reflection of the controls in the Living App. We created novel interaction models for controlling fixtures and devices to create a distinct branded experience in home.
